Grilled Cheese and Ham

My cooking abilities get ignored most of the time as I stir-fry and broil in the shadow of my talented wife. But I certainly can hold my own in the kitchen. Today I made grilled cheese and ham sandwiches for lunch for the family. Simple dish. They were really good.

I’ve always loved making greasy-spoon type foods; eggs, omelets, hash browns, grilled sandwiches, burgers. I get that from my Dad. He taught me how to cook all of those types of foods. He worked as a short order cook in high school and college. When he reminisces about his time as a cook he almost seems more proud of that then that he has become a successful engineer.

Turns out Bruce met Debbie at Loop’s restaurant when he was a short order cook and she was a waitress. From one perspective my existence hinges on some really good kitchen/wait staff relations at a small restaurant in Ventura, California in the sixties.

Juliet and I are still reaping the benefits today. Thanks Dad.
