So, Debby just left for Oregon. We already can feel her absence and it’s sad. The first few hours she was gone and we were back home we didn’t really notice how we felt about it. Maybe because we were noticing Juliet’s puke all over the dinner table, during dinner. I have never been so hungry one minute, and then POOF! No thank you, food. I guess Debby escaped just in time. I hope . . .
The weather was pretty weird while she was here, I admit. We had 4-5 really hot days before the ridiculous rain started. (Debby joked with more than one person that she “brought the rain from Oregon.” One person responded, “Can you bring the cold next time?”) I say ridiculous for two reasons. The rain here is so much heavier than in Oregon. It’s actually a problem if you’re out somewhere and it starts up. We’re talking about one of us having to bring the car around while the other one stays with the kids under cover. Really. The second reason it was so ridiculous is that it changed on a dime and back again within 5-10 minute time periods. We literally never knew what to expect. Impossible to plan ahead. And often it remained sunny the entire time we got drenched! To boot, the humidity was wicked throughout Debby’s visit, including the day we drove her to the airport, and then . . . Ta Dah! It’s FREEZING! I swear. Now, Debby, I am mostly talking to you here. This is not an “acclimated Stephanie” painting you a skewed picture. Kevin stepped outside this morning and almost turned around because he didn’t think he could make it all the way to work in shorts without freezing! The girls shivered all the way to the car and begged for the heater. AND there is not a cloud in the sky, which was not the case almost the entire time you were here. I think it was about 60 degrees or less this morning, and I can’t feel a bit of humidity. (I admit that part could be relative.) But you know what? Yesterday was only 74 degrees with a coolish breeze. Lots of beautiful puffy clouds. It was the very first day I realized I could maybe, just maybe, live in Texas the rest of my life! Welcome to Fall in Austin.
So I have only one conclusion to draw from all of this, which is that Debby must have taken the rain back to Oregon. Or else somewhere between here and there a monsoon has struck unexpectedly . . .
And lastly, in case you ever wondered what Soph would look like in glasses:
(Turns out, really cute.)
