I ran the Nike + Human Race 10k today in support of the Lance Armstrong Foundation. This was my first race in some time. It has been nice to have something to train for. I’m no where near as fast as I used to be, but I averaged 7:55/mile pace for the race, completing 10 kilometers (6.2-ish miles) in 49:15.
Nike conceived this race to be the biggest running event in history. 25 major cities around the world all racing on the same day. I don't know if they achieved 1 million participants, but I believe that was the goal. The event supports three major charities and certainly provides Nike some publicity. The marketing tie-in is for Nike’s Nike + running system, which I have been training with since January (thanks Mom & Dad!). The Nike + system syncs your running workouts to your IPod via a transponder in your running shoes. Added benefit: 8 gigs of your favorite music always on board.
Steph woke up early to bake fresh mini muffins. Thanks Babe! Perfect pre-race breakfast.
